COME FOR A VISIT AND EXPERIENCE OUR FRIENDLY ‘HAVE A GO’ HISTORICAL STUDY CENTRE

Time Travel to the Past!

At Well-next-the-Sea in the county we now call Norfolk, we have completed phase 1 of a conjectural reconstruction of a native
Eceni farmstead circa 60AD.

Interpreting ancient architecture is full of difficulties! We have done our best with knowledge, ability and todays accepted archaeological wisdom, to offer our "settlement" for your discussion and, we
hope, pleasure.

We intend it to be a sympathetic background to the study of ancient crafts and lifestyles.

The Romans called them the Iceni, but their own name "Ecen" appears on their coins. We want to give them back a voice of their own, this gallant tribe who, led by their Queen Boudicca, rose up against the oppression of Rome 2,000 years ago.

We want to find out more about the lost Eceni tribe!

So come and have a go at their art*, crafts*, cookery* and food preparation*! Meet the animals, feed the chicks, make a pot*, try building a house*, survival skills*, weapons practice*, or just come and relax and enjoy our hospitality! (* only when materials and instructors are available).

Throughout the Eceni year, we will be offering speciality workshops and enjoying the Celtic Feasts - so join us and celebrate ECENI !

N.B: The Eceni site is staffed by volunteers.

If staff are available there will be two guided tours
of the site daily - from 11-12am and 1-2pm.

At other times please use the self-guide leaflet.
If you wish for more information a self-guide booklet
is available from the ticket office priced at £1.
